Another Cracking Christmas Lights Switch-on
As expected there was a huge turnout on Friday 24 November for the popular Christmas Lights Switch-On. The High Street, Mill Street and Swan Bank were closed to traffic and the parade took a new route up Mill Street and down the pedestrian area. It was new to us and we had some crowded pinch points that caused some distress for which we apologise. We hope that will be solved next year by removing the entertainment area outside Boots. There was a full evening of free entertainment and lots of Christmas cheer for the whole family including the beautiful Cairngorm Reindeers (outside the Town Hall), Santa in his grotto (at the Cygnet Club) craft stalls to support our local community groups and plenty of festive food and drink. Entertainment on the main stage included Rode Hall Silver Band and an Ed Sheeran/Lewis Capaldi/George Ezra tribute act was organised by Congleton Town Council and was enjoyed by all. There was also a smaller community stage for local performers including school groups in the pedestrian area, and DJ Chris Booth entertained the crowds on Swan Bank.
The Lantern making workshops were a great success with nearly 100 lanterns made with some especially creative ideas this year including a space ship and Blackpool Tower!
2024’s Lights Switch-on will be on Friday 29th November
