Astbury Mere Country Park

Astbury Mere Trust manages Astbury Mere Country Park, 40 acres of open space on the outskirts of the town. We provide free facilities for people who enjoy the outdoors and a pleasant, wildlife- friendly day out.

Described as the ‘Jewel in Congleton’s Crown’ Astbury Mere Country Park is a beautiful area for the enjoyment of local residents and visitors to the historic market town of Congleton.

The Country Park is open from 9:00 until dusk every day of the year, except Christmas Day.  Admission is free of charge. Car Parking is 60p for up to 2 hours or £1:50 for longer, with no overnight parking.  Every penny raised goes towards the improvement of the country park.

It hosts GG’s Coffee Hub, Congleton Park Run on Saturday mornings, a Community Orchard and has a meeting room for hire.

Boalloy Running Club

Boalloy Running club is a friendly club with members from all age ranges. Any kind of runner is welcome, from those just wanting to keep fit to those of a competitive nature. The club train from the Congleton leisure centre on Tuesdays at 6.30pm (earlier for juniors) and on Thursdays at 6.30pm for both seniors and Juniors.
The Club’s members compete in many races across the Cheshire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire counties, in both road and cross-country.

Congleton & District Conservation Volunteers

Congleton & District Conservation Volunteers Is a nature conservation group working across sites in South East Cheshire.

They provide a resource to help maintain and develop local habitats and support wildlife.

If you care about the natural environment, would like to meet friendly, like-minded people and take practical action to help preserve and improve your surroundings, then come and join us.

We hope that you find the pages of our website interesting and that it inspires you to get involved.  What could be better, a pastime that is healthy for both you and the environment.

It is also a great way to exercise.

 

Congleton & District Motor Cycle Club

Congleton & District Motor Cycle Club Is a long established club with off road & road riders. We run off road trials events quarterly from National to club level. Members ride in events in UK and abroad, have rides out and run a check point on the annual National Rally. All types of motor cycles used, classic to modern. No joining fee. Congleton Amateur Swimming Club

Congleton Amateur Swimming Club was founded in 1937 at the old outdoor pool in Congleton. Since 1971, we’ve been based at Congleton Leisure Centre (with a brief move to Sandbach while the centre was redeveloped).

We are a non-competitive club, open to swimmers aged 7 and above, offering sessions to help improve technique, build stamina, and enjoy swimming in a friendly and supportive environment.

The club is run entirely by volunteers, with a management committee, alongside dedicated helpers who coach in the pool and assist on the door. Congleton Amateur Swimming Club is independent and not affiliated with the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA).

Congleton Cricket Club

Founded in 1843, we are proudly one of the oldest cricket clubs in the region. We are based in Booth Street, We offer a fun, family environment and our club is at the heart of the Congleton community.

We field four senior league sides – our 1st, 2nd and 3rd XIs compete on Saturdays in the North Staffs & South Cheshire League, while our Sunday XI operates as a development side, providing emerging players with valuable match experience.

From 2026, we are proud to field the first-ever women’s team in the club’s history, alongside a dedicated Under 11 girls’ team.

Youth cricket lies at the heart of our club. Our vibrant junior section welcomes boys and girls from the age of five and above. Over the years, many of our players have progressed to represent Cheshire at County level, with several advancing to First-Class County Academy squads.

We are proud holders of ECB Clubmark accreditation, reflecting our ongoing commitment to high standards in coaching, safeguarding, and club management.

Congleton Cycling Club

Congleton Cycling Club is a traditional cycling club, with an active racing and social riding scene.

We are a medium sized club with a growing membership (129 at the beginning of 2026) who enjoy a wide range of cycling activity (including Club Runs, Time Trials, Road and Track Racing, Audax and Sportive Riding, Touring and Mountain Biking).

We have two club rides every Saturday, one every Sunday, plus an evening time trial programme throughout the summer. Our members take part in tours and longer day rides and we also have two social evenings a month. We would welcome any new members.

Congleton Harriers

Whether you have never run before or have a medal rack the size of a small van – we will have activities that suit you. Whether you want to have a social run a couple of times a week or perfect your 10k time or run ultra-marathons – you will find like-minded people in the club.

We welcome anyone 16+ of age – all abilities, all genders, all backgrounds.

Members enter local races each year and marathons. Teams enter the local cross-country league. We also organise great social weekends in UK and Europe.

Congleton Lawn Tennis Club

Our club motto is “Tennis for All Ages and Abilities” and we operate an equal opportunities policy offering tennis to as many people as possible regardless of age or playing standards.

We are a very friendly and welcoming club and are always on the lookout for new members to join us. Congleton Ramblers

We are part of the Ramblers organisation. We lead and provide all day walks on Thursdays and Sundays (9-13 miles). We also offer Sunday afternoon walks – a much shorter distance (5-6 miles) and in summer Tuesday evenings (around 9 miles). Our website hosts our Walks Calendar including location, distance, and contact details. Walking is incredibly good for both your physical health and mental well being -newcomers always welcome.

Congleton RUFC and Bears

Not only is Congleton one of the oldest rugby clubs in the world, but until recently we held the world record for the longest ever rugby match – 24 hours 30 minutes and 6 seconds!

We are very proud of both of those facts, but they are not the only reasons why you should join us. If you are completely new to rugby, a former player who can’t shake that rugby itch or you are just looking for a new challenge, then Congleton is the place for you.

Congleton caters for all abilities. We have rugby teams from Under 7s to Over 50s walking rugby and we are one of the few clubs in the region that has girls’ teams.

We play Sundays, 10.30am September to May on Hankinson’s Field, Congleton Park & Back Lane.

The Bears is for boys & girls & offers teams from Under 7s – Under 18s. Plus two senior sides, a veteran’s team plus Mini and Junior Sections, Under 8s – non contact tag.

Mossley Cricket Club

Founded in 1967, cricket has been played in the picturesque Cheshire village of Mossley for 50 years.

The club might be described as a “traditional, village cricket club” where you can be certain of a very warm welcome whether spectator or player.

We encourage all our players to take part in and enjoy the beautiful game of cricket and we field teams at all ages from juniors to seniors and we have a growing girls and women’s section.

Mossley Cricket Club is based off Moss Road, Congleton. We have 3 senior and 8 junior cricket teams. New members are always welcome. The 8 junior sides range from under nine’s to under 18’s age groups. All junior sides have experienced coaches to develop their skills.

Tsuki-no-Kokoro Ju-Jitsu Congleton

Small, friendly ju-jitsu club, operating in St. John’s Church hall, Buglawton, for students from age 5 to adult. No upper age limit! Classes on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Students are also encouraged to work towards Lions youth volunteer service and D of E awards.

Vale Juniors FC (Congleton)

 

Vale Juniors Congleton FC is a grassroots football club based in Congleton and a FA Chartered Standard Community Club. The club was established in 1983 and has since grown to become one of the most successful and well-respected junior football clubs in the area. The club’s mission is to provide a safe and supportive environment for children to learn and play football, and to help them develop as individuals and as part of a team.

We cater for boys and girls of all ages, from under 7s to under 18s. The club has a number of teams in various age groups, which compete in local and regional leagues and tournaments. The club also runs a development program, which focuses on teaching football skills to younger children and helping them to progress through the ranks. Our aim is to positively impact the lives of the town’s young people with team sports.

The club’s home ground is at Eaton Bank Academy which provides excellent facilities for training and matches.

Warrior Marshal Art Congleton

We are a full time Martial Arts Academy based in Congleton. Established in 2008 the club runs classes for all age groups and abilities, including  Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Ladies only classes all taught by qualified and experienced instructors.

Both Keith and Mandy are WAKO Black Belt instructors in Kickboxing and Keith is a Brown belt in Brazilian Jiujitsu under 2nd Degree black belt Professor Shaun Matthews.

We have two fully matted studios, a weights and cardio area, a private changing area for adults and a family room plus tea and coffee available for parents that want to wait in comfort for their children’s classes to finish.
