The Christmas Lights Switch-on and Grand Lantern Parade is part of Congleton’s annual Christmas event heralding the start of the festive season. The main event is organised by Congleton Town Council with support from CCP.
CCP’s main task is to deliver the lantern parade which encourages community involvement in the event and adds to Congleton’s strong community spirit. Families return year after year to the lantern workshops and after 30 years they have become a firm festive tradition in the town.
The Lights Switch-on is currently held on the last Friday evening in November from 4.30pm – 7 or 8pm. The parade starts from Back Street carpark and heads down Lawton Street where we pick up Santa in his sleigh and with him the young people or person chosen to turn on the lights plus the Mayor and other dignities. The parade arrives at the stage in time for the lights to go on around 5.30pm. This changes so please check current information for this year’s timings.
